Wordnet: A resource hosted and designed by Princeton University (US), Wordnet is a massive database of English words and their synonyms.
Google Translate: A very useful tool for ‘quick and dirty’ translations from and to many different languages. While not recommended for translating important information for dissemination, it’s nonetheless a useful resource. The quality of translations is constantly improving.
Wordspy: Both fun and useful, Wordspy is the best source on the internet for the new words and phrases that creep into English every day.
Etymology Online: Have you ever wondered where a word came from or why it sounds the way it does? This resource can help you. Many obscure words and many more common ones sit side-by-side awaiting the English student. Word nerds beware – you could easily lose a few hours on here.
